As I’m sure you know, this Sunday coming (26th November), being the last Sunday before Advent, is Stir-up Sunday where we traditionally prepare our Christmas puddings ready for the forthcoming festivities. So with that in mind, today I am sharing with you a delicious Christmas Pudding recipe which is packed with fruits and lots of seasonal flavour including chocolate-orange!
Of course, there are loads of different Christmas puddings that you can pick up from the local shop for just a few pounds, but if you’re anything like me you may struggle to find one which ticks all of your requirements. And let’s not forget, other than being able to customise your Christmas Pudding to produce the flavours you enjoy, by making your own you and your family are able to have fun making a wish whilst stirring the mixture!

In this easy Christmas recipe the fruits are soaked in orange juice overnight allowing them to become beautifully plump and juicy as well as enabling them to pick up that wonderful orange flavour. Added to the fruits is orange zest, a generous quantity of chopped semi dark chocolate and let’s not forget about the choc chips in the brioche used for the breadcrumbs!
Traditionally Christmas Pudding, once cooked, is cooled and then wrapped up and stored somewhere dark for a few weeks. That time allows for the flavours to meld together, mature and develop making for a wonder close to the Christmas meal. But this recipe could be made right up to the day itself. The pudding you see in the images here was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family just a few hours after it was made. Even Mr E, who always declines a portion of this traditional Christmas dessert because he claims he doesn’t enjoy it, cleared his bowl! I’m anticipating the additional pudding we made, which is all snug in its wrapping, will have some amazing flavours when we serve it on Christmas Day.
So, here’s how to make a Christmas Pudding with a Chocolate Orange flavour combination.

Steaming Bowl, we used a Pyrex bowl which hold 600ml when completely full
Trivet (ie small tea plate / saucer or lid from a jar)
- 250g Mixed Fruit
- 100ml Orange Juice
- 1 Orange, zest of
- 50g Butter, unsalted & softened, plus extra for preparing the bowl
- 80g dark Muscovado Sugar
- 2 Medium Eggs, lightly beaten
- 50g Glace Cherries, quartered
- 50g Chocolate, we used 52% cocoa solids, finely chopped
- 1/4 Eating Apple, finely diced
- 50g Chocolate Chip Brioche
- 50g SR Flour
- 15g Ground Almonds
